Pia Silvani of Hunterdon County Named One of the Top Ten “Teachers” to Positively Impact the Dog World
Pia Silvani, veteran dog trainer and Director of Training and Behavior for St. Hubert’s Dog Training School, has been honored by BARK Magazine as one of the top 10 trainers in their list of the “100 Best and Brightest.” The list distinguished those people who have made enduring and positive contributions to transforming and improving the lives of dogs.
“It’s an honor to be recognized by BARK for doing the work that I love at St. Hubert’s,” said Silvani. “Training dogs and helping to solve behavior problems ultimately strengthens the bond between pets and their owners. This is an important part of our mission at St. Hubert’s.”
In singling out Silvani’s accomplishments, the magazine said:

Silvani, Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT), joined St. Hubert’s Dog Training School in 1991 and was named Director of Training and Behavior in 1994. Under her leadership, St. Hubert’s school has grown into one of the largest and most comprehensive training programs in the United States, with proceeds benefiting the homeless pets in St. Hubert’s animal shelters.
Silvani has developed a wide variety of courses for St. Hubert’s focusing on positive, reward-based techniques, which are extremely effective in the enhancement of the human-animal bond. The school now offers more than 100 classes per week, which include eight levels of pet training classes, specialty courses designed for dogs with extreme behavioral problems and much more. She has written six training manuals, which are being used around the country as a resource guide for other trainers. She has also recently authored a book entitled, Raising Puppies and Kids Together - A Guide for Parents, which was voted in the top three parenting books for a Franklin D. Roosevelt Foundation Award.
