AHS Sponsors Contest for Extreme Makeover: Kitty Edition
Preparing for Adopt-A-Shelter Cat Month in June, Associated Humane Societies/Popcorn Park's Animal Care Center, here, is looking for one creative animal lover to help plan a major makeover to its feline dormitory.
The Tinton Falls Animal Care Center, at 2960 Shafto Road, has a huge, airy room for many of its cats and kittens to roam freely, which could use some good cosmetic alterations that provide a more inviting and playful environment. AHS is looking for artists and designers to come up with a new plan. A $1,000 prize is waiting for the winning design.
"We want to give the room for a cosmetic make-over so that our kitties, who are curious by nature, will have some activity ? rather than finding a place to snooze all day?and snooze by night, said Roseann Trezza, Executive Director, Associated Humane Societies/Popcorn Park. "There are so many creative individuals out there that we know could design much better.
Entrants should design a make-over that will not change the room's walls or ceiling structure. Otherwise, they have a blank canvas to design a unique cattery. The room is 28 feet long, 13 feet wide and has a ceiling that slopes from 14 feet to 10 feet high. One wall has two huge windows with a pleasant view of an adjacent wooded area.
Send all drawings to Feline Fantasyland, c/o Associated Humane Societies, 124 Evergreen Ave., Newark, NJ 07114. Deadline is June 1. The winning design will be unveiled in a future issue of the Humane News. In the interim, we have started a fund raising drive to cover the cost of special cat tree furniture and accompanying accoutrements. Monetary donations can be sent to the same address.
