When Shari Simmans of Alexandria, Va., took Pomeroy to Bring-Your-Dog-to-Work Day at her office, he marched around like he owned the place," Shari says. He quickly scoped out the other
visiting canines and "was quite adept at riling them up, and several times, we had a little party going on, everyone running around having fun."
Fun is a new concept for Pomeroy, a puppy mill dog who had spent his whole life in a cage until he found a haven with A Forever-Home Rescue Foundation of Chantilly, Va. The group lists its pets at http://aforeverhome.petfinder.com and when Pomeroy was posted, Shari spotted him and arranged to adopt the little guy.
"Although he was very nervous his first day," she says, "within 24 hours he had bonded with me and had begun guarding 'his' home, barking whenever someone approached."
On walks, Shari says he struts around "with such panache that it's hard to tell who is showing off more-me showing off Pomeroy or Pommie showing his new mommy off." He greets her when she comes home from work with his "I love Mommy" dance, which lasts up to 10 minutes.
His exuberance makes him very popular around Alexandria, and he has been featured on a number of campaign Web sites and has even accompanied some candidates on their canvasses of Alexandria. His appearances on local TV have prompted people to drop by Shari's with
requests "to see the cute Pomeranian."
Shari doesn't mind. She knows Pomeroy has found happiness. His smile says it all.
