You would never know Simba was 11 years old, says his 'mom,' Alison Jones of Marshfield, Mass. ""He's going to be a kitten for life I think."
Alison adopted the handsome purebred Somali after her 19-year-old cat, Bear, passed away. "I was seriously missing a cat presence in my home," she says. He was everything she wanted and more. "He has definitely become the "king" of my home."
The "king," Alison discovered, is a prince. "He must have been shown professionally at some point," she says, "because he loves to be brushed, lets me clip his nails while he sits still, lets me clean those big ears of his with no problems. And he goes into the carrier like a prono fighting, no scratching."
People are often surprised to find purebreds on Petfinder.com, an online database of pets in animal placement organizations, but purebreds do end up in shelters and in foster care. Simba had been relinquished to NOAH (Newmasket Orphaned Animal Home) by his owner, perhaps because the cat had quit using his litterbox reliably. A trip to the vet after his adoption resolved the problem with a special diet.
