Recently a relative of mine got a new puppy. Which I was very excited about, because I feel that having a pet especially a dog is fundamental in childhood development. They found a puppy named Donut at their local shelter. He is a Jack Russell Terrier/Pit Mix. The shelter told them that this breed was good with children. Now this perplexed me, and I was concerned. Not concerned about the pit half, but the Jack half. Especially since in their house hold they had a one of each childhood stage, that is a 1 year old, a 2 year old, a 3 year hold, and 4 year old.
They visited my home several times, each time bringing Donut with them. Donut was an angel. At least when he was in my house. But once he got home, he, as my relative put it, was a "holly terror". So I offered to take the puppy. They were reluctant, but a few weeks later the call came.
"Come and get this dog!" So with out delay I arranged for my dad, who loved the chance to see the grandbabies anyway, to drive there and bring Donut to his new home.
Once Donut got adjusted to his new home, and was reunited with his friend, "Ringo" my shepherd mix, he was good as gold. He is a very well behaved puppy, in fact he takes to training very quickly. So why the behavior difference? Was it the competition with the children in my relative’s house? Or was it just a personality conflict between owner and pup? Well until we can learn to speak dog we will never truly know. But I do know one thing for sure, Donut is very happy in his new home. (As he sits at my feet looking up at me as if he knows that I'm writing about him.
So what do you think? Feel free to comment on this article.

Hey Donut,
I'm glad to see you have a grrreat home! I do too only my first humans were pretty scary. They didn't feed me much at all, hurt me and beated me up. It was very scary but I've been with my forever Mom & Dad for almost 7 years now, YIPPEE! They love me a lot and I get lots of good REAL food (meat and bones), and treats, and nutritionals. I have a lot of wrinkles and droopy eyes so I can beg REAL good hehe.
I wanted to read your story bepaws your new Dad Bill told my mom all about it. Mom and Jeannie have the podcast, Animal Talk Naturally, which as you know is streamed here on All Pets Radio.
Mom wrote a book with holistic veterinarian Jill Elliot, that just came out this month. You might want your Dad to get it bepaws it teaches the humans all about how to care for us naturally -and for us dogs that means eating MEAT & BONES, my favorite WOOF! The book is called "Whole Health for Happy Dogs" and humans can pick it up at http://www.TheBloomingdogs.com -hey, what does she mean by The Bloomingdogs anyway Donut?
Whatever, humans, gotta love em. I'm VERY excited to see you in such a great home Donut dude. Hehe. Have a pawsitively tail waggin', forever home day, WOOF!" Shadrach the Neo Mastiff
