Re:
PET and ANIMAL WRITERS WANTED

Ahhhhhhhh. Life is hectic, and there is nothing like just sitting with a dog or a cat. I've been so busy getting a new rescue/spay/neuter program up and running, taking care of my family, which includes a newborn, and not taking care of myself at all. It's amazing how just a few moments spent in peaceful introspection with two of my favorite and long-time canine friends fixed me right up.

Everyday, I walk about 1/4 mile down the lane to the edge of our property where I meet the bus with my children, twice. Toby the Dalmation and Sierra the Weimaraner follow me everywhere, so they come too. Trailing not far behind are Mr. Cheeks and Lily, two formerly feral cats.

After we get past the "testing phase" where they head towards the road to see if their boundaries have changed and find they have not, my beloved dogs settle in next to me companionably. They lift their noses in the humid air and sniff in the scent of trees and hundreds of other things.

For that amount of time, we are all content to sit and just BE. This is a time I think I'd never take if I wasn't forced to meet the bus twice a day, but it is essential. This is the time when I grow my energy back. When my mind is finally free to think creatively. Toby and Si Si seem to get a lot out of it as well. Usually, they clamor for my attention, but while we wait, they seem to know they have it, without a touch at all. We commune.

Now, this is going to sound silly to some, but dogs know. They don't need words, they know. It's a basic tenet of their being, and something we forget because we get lost in the details of our speech, and all the social aspects that go with it. Toby and Si Si are not encumbered by speech. They know they have a job to do, and one of the things dogs do really well is the process of waiting. ESPECIALLY when the waiting is done with their person. So we all stop and wait, and think, and recharge.

Re:
Do you have a Pampered Pet?

You are not alone! I, too, make sure that I spend quality time with each of my three girls every day. The fancy material things are good enough for some companion animals and their owners, but for me and my girls there is nothing that can compare to the emotional connections we build through quality time. The girls know how to give mom "that look" when they're ready to connect! <3

While I don't consider it a form of pampering (more like a necessity) I wanted to share my new business with you. I believe that our companions deserve the same medical treatment as us and so I have created v911. It is a veterinary emergency medical service and I invite you to take a look around our website: http://v911service.com.

Do you have a Pampered Pet?

There are many different ways of pampering an your dog. Some people use fancy clothes, or themed dog beds. Those types of things are fine, I have nothing against them. But in my case I treat my dogs like children. Therefore one of the greatest ways I pamper them is to give them "Quality time".

Why The World Needs Pets

Here at Citizens for Pets in Condos, we get all kinds of sad letters about people in condos who are being asked to get rid of their pets. These people tell me over and over how much their pets mean to them, especially in these high anxiety times.

To read the letters and to sign our petition to allow pets in condos, go to www.petsincondos.org.

Why The World Needs Pets

They wont hold a grudge. They wont leave you for someone else. They know how to show their affection. They even know your feelings better than you do. Who are they? Well they go by many names, but most of the world just calls them Pets. Pets are wondrous creatures whose powers go beyond that of spiritual or magical. Perhaps that power is what the world needs more of.

Have you ever had a “cat” nurse? No, I’m not talking about Halloween fun at the hospital. A “cat” nurse is the best name I can use to describe an amazing feline phenomenon that I have personally witnessed. They can’t do CPR or take your temperature, but make no mistake your cat loves you unconditionally and it shows. It’s one medicine that you won’t need a prescription for.

Re:
What Makes a Pit Bull a Pet?

Phoebe is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, my second service dog, and my third bully breed. These are wonderful, loving family dogs, but they are being killed all across the U.S. because of ignorance and bad laws. People are constantly asking to pet Phoebe and telling me of their memories of past pet pit bulls that were great family dogs, but yet these laws are still being passed and these dogs are still dying. Why are we allowing a minority of people to destroy an entire breed of wonderful, loving, and loyal pets? It's because we're just average, nice family people, but our dogs need us to be more than that! We need to vow to write at least one letter per month, one email per month, and to convince one friend per month to vow to do the same thing - can you do that for someone who would give their life for you? Honestly, please don't leave this for your neighbor to take care of - every good person needs to stand up and defend these dogs - NOW! Please go to the web site shown in the posting above and go to http://www.mydogvotes.com. Then help to educate those who have been deceived by the media, don't remain silent - our gentle giants need all of us to speak up for them. Sincerely,

What Makes a Pit Bull a Pet?

Hi all -

My opinion of pit bulls was negative too, but I just wrote an article on pit bull abuse and fell in love with them in the process! I work at North Shore Animal League America and we recently brought in a beautiful female pit named Gracie who had been thrown off a 4-story building in Brooklyn and miraculously survived with only a broken leg. I did some research on pit bulls and learned so much about them – so much about how abused and misunderstood this breed is!

You can read about Gracie here:
http://www.nsalamerica.org/feature/pitbull/

And here is a follow up story with a pledge you can sign to end pit bull abuse here:
http://www.nsalamerica.org/feature/pitbull/openletter.html

And here is a great website all about pit bulls which I found in my travels that I also wanted to pass on:
http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/

Hope everyone passes this information along and helps to bring some needed love and attention to these awesome dogs.

Best - Jorin

What Makes a Pit Bull a Pet?

The answer to that question could be the one thing that legislators all over this country need to realize. I’m not writing this to bash anyone or scream about my dislike for the way specific breeds are being treated, but I am writing this in the hopes that somewhere sometime someone who makes these decisions will read this and then consider the results of their actions.

Isn’t it funny how we don’t realize what we have until it’s gone. Like the parent who pushes the kids off to college only to suffer from empty nest syndrome a week later, or like the guy that sells his hot rod only to spend the rest of his life drooling at ever car show in town. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could have someone show you in advanced the consequences of your actions or show you what the world would be should you never have been born?

It is impossible not to notice how more and more people are winning their personal battles with legislation. There once was a time when two opposing parties could settle their differences by talking and compromising. Now though, it seems that the opposing side doesn’t even get their turn at the podium before some town council is voting into law some new ordinance that is stripping us of our freedoms. Pet owners everywhere are facing these battles everyday.

Have you ever noticed how a pet, can ease life’s tensions? We all are faced with stress and anxiety beyond our control sometimes. Take for example a simple visit to the in-laws. (If there is such a thing.) None of us like it. There is usually some family dispute that needs to be settled. Or in some cases such a mismatch in personalities that there is nothing to talk about. However, the whole ordeal can be made easy just by bringing your pet along.

How Safe is your Home?

Many of us pet owners are not aware of some of the basic dangers to our pets in our homes. Our nightmare: It was Easter Sunday, when my wife and I came home to green spots on the carpet. After further investigation it appeared to be vomit. Since the dog was in his cage we knew it must have been the cats. But at the time we couldn't tell which of our two cats it was. So the next morning we were greeted with another green spot at our bedroom door way. Again, not knowing which cat it came from.

Let's face it, how many times can you say, "take the puppy out often to go to the bathroom, you must train your dog to be a good member of your family and the community, and that it's a lot of hard work." Dog books over the years repeat basically the same message over and over just using a difference approach or training method.

Hey Donut,
I'm glad to see you have a grrreat home! I do too only my first humans were pretty scary. They didn't feed me much at all, hurt me and beated me up. It was very scary but I've been with my forever Mom & Dad for almost 7 years now, YIPPEE! They love me a lot and I get lots of good REAL food (meat and bones), and treats, and nutritionals. I have a lot of wrinkles and droopy eyes so I can beg REAL good hehe.

I wanted to read your story bepaws your new Dad Bill told my mom all about it. Mom and Jeannie have the podcast, Animal Talk Naturally, which as you know is streamed here on All Pets Radio.

Mom wrote a book with holistic veterinarian Jill Elliot, that just came out this month. You might want your Dad to get it bepaws it teaches the humans all about how to care for us naturally -and for us dogs that means eating MEAT & BONES, my favorite WOOF! The book is called "Whole Health for Happy Dogs" and humans can pick it up at http://www.TheBloomingdogs.com -hey, what does she mean by The Bloomingdogs anyway Donut?

Whatever, humans, gotta love em. I'm VERY excited to see you in such a great home Donut dude. Hehe. Have a pawsitively tail waggin', forever home day, WOOF!" Shadrach the Neo Mastiff
